Description

This 2 days and 1 night tour allows you to experience some of the most popular places in central Japan in a short amount of time. The tour takes you from either Kyoto or Osaka into the heart of old picturesque Japan, where you can spend a couple of days immersing in its traditional lifestyle.

You will be picked up at either the Hearton Hotel in Nishi-Umeda (7:30 am) or Namba OCAT (8:00 am).

DAY 1
Your first stop for the day is Lake Biwa (Biwako), the largest fresh water lake in Japan, which you will be able to view in all its greatness from the observation deck.
After a brief stop at the expressway rest area, where you can also purchase, or only have a look at, traditional Seki Knives, head for Gujo-Hachiman. Also called the Water City, Gujo Hachiman is famous throughout Japan for its pristine rivers, water springs, and for maintaining traditional ecological practices that have kept the water running through the town exceptionally clean for centuries. Enjoy a relaxing lunch in a local restaurant, where you will also be able to witness first hand how Japanese food samples (food replicas) are made (12:20 - 1:40 pm) . If you feel creative, you can also make your own samples and take them back as souvenirs (*Option 1).
From here, head to Shirakawa Village, or Shirakawago (3:10 - 4:30 pm). Explore and allow yourself to be fascinated by this World Heritage site with Gassho style houses said to have stood for over 300 years. The village was once considered a wild and unexplored region, with a natural environment that limited the interaction with neighboring areas. This made for unique cultural practices and lifestyle, all which can still be experienced today.
The final stop of the day is Takayama (ETA 5:20 pm), where you will be spending the night.

DAY 2
Start the day walking around the Takayama Morning Market (Untill 9:25 am), where you can enjoy a wide variety of delicious and creative local specialties, such as freshly squeezed orange juice served in orange peel cups or freshly brewed coffee in cookie cups.
From here, head to Shirakawa Village Observatory Deck (10:20 - 11:40 am). From this vantage point you can truly appreciate the breathtaking mountainous scenery and the 114 thatched-roof homes that make up the village.
Next is Kenrokuen Garden (12:50 - 2:10 pm). Enjoy lunch in a pictoresque location and gaze at what is considered one of the three most beautiful gardens of Japan. Located in Kanazawa Prefecture, next to Kanazawa Castle, the garden spreads across 11.4 acres of land, with a large artificial pond, hills and houses dotted throughout telling the tale of past times.
Visit Soba-no-sato for tasting and shopping of Japanese traditional buckwheat noodles (Soba).

After a brief stop at Biwako to end the tour, you will be dropped off at either Kyoto Avanti (ETA 6:20 pm), Namba OCAT (ETA 7:20 pm) or Hearton Hotel Nishi-Umeda (ETA 7:40 pm).
