Description

Experience the sacred mountain of Mt Koya, the spiritual center for the Shingon sect of Buddhism in Japan, on this 2-day trip by express train from Osaka. A guide accompanies you to a pair of Mt Koya’s most renowned World Heritage sites: Okunoin and Danjo Garan. Wind down from a day of sightseeing with an independent temple stay experience at Fukuchi-in; meals and access to the ‘onsen’ (Japanese hot spring) are included. On the second day, explore the temple's natural setting on your own before returning to Osaka.

Established by Kobo Daishi in Japan in the 9th century, the Shingon sect of Buddhism makes its home on Mt Koya (Koyasan). The 2,953-foot-high (900-meter) mountain is a registered sacred site and pilgrimage route in Japan’s Kii mountain range.

On Day 1 you’re accompanied by an informative guide to Okunoin and Danjo Garan, two UNESCO-listed temple complexes. Day 2 is free for you to enjoy your tranquil surroundings before returning by express train to Osaka.
